Men’s Tennis Falls to Clark in Fall Opener

WORCESTER, Mass. – Regis College battled Clark University in several competitive matches, but the Cougars prevailed over the Pride, 7-2, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference collegiate men's tennis contest at the Corash Tennis Courts.

Clark (1-0) opened the scoring with a victory at the second doubles position, but the Regis duo of Lenny Tam (Waltham, Mass.) and Josh Nolen (Fairfax, Va.) finished off an 8-4 victory in the third doubles position to tie the match at 1-1. The Pride doubles team of Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Andrew Bienvenu (Baton Rouge, La.) took Clark's number one doubles team to the final possible game before the Cougar tandem pulled out an 8-7 win.

The Cougars clinched the overall contest with three singles victories before Bienvenu picked up Regis's second point of the day with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-3) at number two singles. Torres went to a tiebreaker in the first set of his match at number one singles before eventually falling in straight sets, and Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) rallied to win the second set after losing the first set, but his opponent took the super-tiebreaker to win the match at number three singles.

Regis (0-1) continues its fall schedule with a contest at Roger Williams University next Monday, Sept. 27, beginning at 4 p.m.
