Senior Spotlight - Men's Tennis

We at GoRegisPride.com are in the midst of recognizing the Regis College seniors in men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's track and field. These articles will be posted close to the date of the respective teams' scheduled senior ceremonies.

The Regis College men's tennis team would like to honor three student-athletes as they complete their collegiate playing careers. Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) and Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) were four-year letter winners, helping the Pride to 41 victories over their first three years, including the 2017 NECC Tournament title and a berth in the championship match of the 2018 GNAC Tournament. Jayson Vega (Ponce, Puerto Rico) joined the tennis program for the 2019-20 season and was ready to become an important contributor as the Pride prepared for the conference schedule before competition was halted.

NOLAN BEBARTA

Nolan made an immediate impact for the Pride during his freshman season of 2016-17, collecting 12 singles wins and 15 doubles victories. He was a perfect 13-0 in doubles as well as 9-1 in singles during the spring season, earning First Team All-NECC honors in both singles and doubles, as Regis won the NECC Championship. As a sophomore, he was selected All-GNAC in singles, winning eight times to help the Pride advance to the title match of the 2018 GNAC Tournament. He repeated those win totals in his junior season with eight singles wins and nine doubles victories. In summary, he earned 29 career singles wins and 34 total doubles wins, moving into seventh on Regis' all-time list for individual doubles wins. Majoring in global business management, Nolan is pursuing a career in high-tech software sales after graduation.

EVAN RUSSELL

Evan quickly entered the singles lineup at Regis, winning 20 of his first 22 collegiate singles matches. He was a perfect 10-0 during the spring season in 2017, helping the Pride win the NECC Tournament. He won eight singles matches without a loss in 2017-18, followed by a nine-win performance in singles during the 2018-19 campaign. Evan concluded the spring 2019 portion of the schedule with five straight singles victories, the last three coming in three consecutive days. Evan ends his collegiate career fourth on Regis' all-time list for career winning percentage in singles (.727) and ninth in program history in career singles wins with 32. Evan was a two-time conference All-Sportsmanship honoree as well as a two-time Academic All-GNAC selection entering his senior year. Majoring in biology, Evan plans to work at Sandy Neck Beach in Barnstable as a natural resource officer over the summer before pursuing a career in either wildlife biology or environmental science.

JAYSON VEGA

Before joining the tennis program for the 2019-20 season, Jayson was a member of the Regis men's volleyball team for three years. After earning NECC All-Sportsmanship honors in his freshman season, Jayson accumulated 500 assists as a setter during the 2018 campaign, the fourth-highest single season total in program history. Over his three-year career, he collected 749 career assists, second on Regis' all-time list, and posted a hitting percentage of .299, the third-highest career percentage in Pride history. This season for the tennis team, he appeared in the singles lineup four times and in the doubles lineup on five occasions, along with participation in doubles at the Nichols Invitational Sept. 15. He teamed with Sebastian Torres for an 8-3 doubles victory over King's College March 3 during the Pride's Spring Break trip to Florida. A two-time Academic All-GNAC honoree entering the year, Jayson is majoring in pre-med with plans to attend medical school in the near future.
