Men’s Tennis Loses Close Contest Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. – Regis College played several close matches Thursday night, but Midway University was able to pull out a 4-3 victory in a non-conference men's collegiate dual tennis match at the USTA National Campus.

The Eagles were able to win the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, but two of them were close. In the number one position, Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) lost to their opponents, 6-4, while Regis' second doubles team of Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) and Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas) forced a tiebreaker before eventually falling, 7-5, for a 7-6 set loss.

Midway (4-8) clinched the overall match by winning the first three singles matches in straight sets. Russell put the Pride on the board from the fourth singles position, rallying from an opening set loss to win the second set, 6-4, as well as the super-tiebreaker, 10-6.

Matt DaRosso (Yonkers, N.Y.) won his match at number six singles in a similar fashion, dropping the first set before coming back to take the second set, 6-4, and then prevail in the super-tiebreaker, 10-4. Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) closed out the match at number five singles with a straight-set victory, pulling out the second set, 7-6, by taking the tiebreaker, 8-6.

Regis College (1-7) closes out the Florida trip by playing a true road match in Babson Park, Fla., against Webber International University beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, March 6.
