Men's Tennis Blanked by Eastern Nazarene in Season Opener

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team suffered a loss in their 2017-18 season opener on Friday evening, falling to Eastern Nazarene by a final score of 9-0 at the Regis Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 0-1 on the season, while the Lions improve to 1-0 with the victory.

The Lions got the day started by sweeping the Pride in doubles play to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead. The first win of the day came at No. 3 doubles for the Lions, where sophomores Kaden Swarr (Brighton, Colo.) and Kyle Pierson (Redding, Calif.) got the best of the Pride's Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) and Tim Miller (North Attleboro, Mass.) by a score of 8-2. The doubles sweep was secured by the Lions at No. 1 doubles, as Alex Partyka (Moscow, Russia) and Henry Siercke (Hamburg, Germany) defeated Regis captains Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) 8-5.

The Lions continued to control the play in singles to secure their first win of the season. Regis junior Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) both forced tie-breaks at No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively, but neither was able to come through with victories for the Pride.

Next up for the Pride, they host Division II Saint Anselm College next Thursday at the Regis Tennis Center. Eastern Nazarene heads to Stonehill tomorrow for the Stonehill Doubles Tournament, starting at 9:00 a.m.
