SPRINGFIELD PRIDE SWEEP REGIS PRIDE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up its fourth-consecutive victory, as the Pride defeated Regis College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Appleton Courts.

With the win, Springfield improves to 5-3 on the year, while Regis falls to 7-6 overall. This marks the first time since the 2008 season that the Pride has strung together four wins in a row, as last time it defeated Connecticut College, Clark, Coast Guard and Wheaton to begin the month of April.

Kicking things off at No. 1 doubles, the tandem of Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) defeated Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine), 8-2, before Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) remained unbeaten at No. 2 doubles, besting Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.), 8-3. In the No. 3 doubles slot, Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) defeated Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.), 8-3, to push Springfield's lead to 3-0 heading to singles.

In the No. 1 singles slot, DeVarennes beat Harrow, 6-2, 6-2, before Romaine beat Horton, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles to make it 5-0, Springfield. The Pride wrapped up taking the final four singles slots, as Honda defeated Polley, 6-0, 6-3, Danielewicz beat Quattrociocchi, 6-1, 6-0, Beynor beat Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.), 6-3, 6-3, and Zack Keene (Feeding Hills, Mass.) beat Hildreth, 6-4, 6-3.

Regis returns to the courts on Thursday when the host New England Collegiate Conference opponent Becker at 4:30 p.m.
