PRIDE OPEN UP 2015 WITH 8-1 WIN OVER BEACONS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's tennis team kicked off their 2015 campaign with an 8-1 victory over UMass Boston on Sunday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride improve to 1-0 on the year, while the Beacons fall to 0-1.

Regis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the match by sweeping doubles play as Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) defeated Josh Bhasin (Tulsa, Okla.) and Jack Wang (Suzhou, China) at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. The Pride added wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by matching scores of 8-1 with Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) winning at No. 2 doubles, and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) winning at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Harrow defeated Bhasin at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory, while Quattrociocchi defeated Tin Tran (Quincy, Mass.) at No. 3 singles, 7-5, 6-2. Jarid Polley added a 6-0, 6-2 win over Wyatt Towle (Woburn, Mass.) at No. 4 singles, and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. Freshman Cam Charbonneau (Guilford, Conn.) recorded his first collegiate win with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Vlad Leopard (Carnikava, Latvia).

UMass Boston's lone point of the day came at No. 2 singles as Jack Wang defeated Luke Horton, 7-5 (7-4), 6-2.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 3:00 p.m. match with the Corsairs. UMass Boston travels to Williams College next weekend for the ITA Regionals on Friday and Saturday.
