PRIDE MEN EARN FIRST VICTORY OF NEW YEAR

ORLANDO – The Regis College men's tennis team earned their first victory of the new calendar year by defeating non-conference opponent Eastern University 8-1 on Monday morning in Orlando. With the victory, the Crimson and Gold improve to 6-2 on the young campaign and with the loss, the Eagles drop to 0-3.

Regis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the Pride swept doubles play. The duo of Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) earned an 8-1 win at No. 1 singles over Grant Williams (York, Pa.) and Kyle Berner (Haddon Heights, N.J.). At No. 2 doubles, Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.) and Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) beat Mitchell Weaver (Gap, Pa.) and John Anchundia (Bronx, N.Y.) 8-1. Rounding out the sweep at No. 3 doubles was the pair of Jarid Polley (North Reading, Mass.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) who shut out their opponents 8-0.

The Pride took five of six matches in singles play including No. 1 singles when Michael Beluch defeated Grant Williams 6-0, 6-1. The Eagles took No. 2 singles after Kyle Berner blew past Nathan Cohen 6-2, 6-2. Matt Quattrociocchi wrapped up the match for the Pride with a 6-1, 6-1 win versus Mitchell Weaver.

The Crimson and Gold return to action tomorrow when they play a doubleheader, with the first contest against Morningside in Orlando at 10:00 a.m. and the afternoon cap versus Saint Mary's (Minn.) at 3:00 p.m.
