PRIDE TAKE MATCHES FROM BEACONS AND WILDCATS

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College defeated UMass Boston, 5-4, and followed that up with a 6-3 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Sunday in men's tennis action. The Pride wrap up their fall season at 5-2 overall.

 

Regis College 5, UMass Boston 4
Regis jumped out to an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as the Pride grabbed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) picked up a 9-7 win over Jack Wang (Suzhou, China) and Jae Park (Millsboro, Del.) at No. 2 doubles, while Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) added an 8-1 win over Nikhil Illa (Hyderbad, India) and Wyatt Towle (Woburn, Mass.) at No. 3 doubles.

The Beacons lone point of doubles play came at the No. 1 spot as Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) and Edward Martinez (Boston, Mass.) defeated Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.), 8-4.

The two teams split singles play with the Beacons winning the top three singles matchups and Regis taking the bottom three. Matt Quattrociocchi defeated Jae Park 6-3, 6-0, at No. 4 singles, and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) picked up a straight-set, 6-0, 6-0 win over Wyatt Towle. Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) wrapped up singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vlad Leopard (Carnikava, Latvia).

Charles Lai defeated Michael Beluch, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Edward Martinez beat Chris Harrow, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2 singles. Jack Wang needed a third set tie-break to defeat Jeremy Morgenbesser, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7, at No. 3 singles.

Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) needed a tie-break to defeat Andre Barbero (Brielle, N.J.) and Nicholas Auffret (Holtsville, N.Y.) at No. 1 doubles 9-8 (7-2). Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles over Mairusz Wala (Woonsocket, R.I.) and Taylor Farmer (Carmel, Ind.).

JWU's lone point of doubles play came at the No. 3 spot as Jason Chavenson (Upper Dublin, Pa.) and Jake McGuire (Great Mills, Md.) defeated Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.).

Beluch continued his strong play in his singles matchup with Andre Barbero, defeated the sophomore, 6-4, 6-1. Chris Harrow beat Nicholas Auffret, 6-4, 6-2, and Jarid Polley beat Chavenson 6-2, 6-1. Nathan Cohen needed three sets to defeat Jorge Mancebo (Santiago, Dominican Republic), 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Mariusz Wala and Grzegorz Wala (Woonsocket, R.I.) posted three-set wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles for the other two points for the Wildcats.
