STRONG START FUELS ENC WIN OVER REGIS

WESTON, Mass. - Eastern Nazarene College swept all three doubles matches and then won four of six singles match-ups en route to a 7-2 victory over host Regis College on Monday night in non-conference men's tennis action. The Lions pick up their first win of the year and move to 1-0, while the Pride drop to 2-2.

Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) started the day off with an 8-2 win over Scott Barrett (Burlington, Mass.) and Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.). At No. 2 doubles, Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Davis Steelman (Darlington, Mass.) posted an 8-4 win. The Pride's best chance for a point came at No. 1 doubles as Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) nearly defeated Vladislav Tolmachev (Perm, Russia) and Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehoboth, Mass.), but fell 8-6.

In singles play, Tolmachev continued his strong day with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Beluch at the top singles position. McKay-Corkum defeated Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, while Davis Steelman won at No. 5 singles as Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) was forced to retire with the match at 3-6, 6-4. Nick Hildreth jumped out to an early lead with a 6-1 win in the opening set, but Tyler Perron rallied to win the next two sets, 6-4, 10-5, for the win at No. 6 singles.

One of the Pride's points on the day came at No. 2 singles as Chris Harrow defeated Kevin Paterno. Harrow won the first set, 6-1, but Paterno answered with a 6-1 win of his own in the second. The freshman Harrow rebounded to take the third set 6-3. Scott Barrett grabbed the other point of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sam Son at No. 4 singles, and Barrett stays perfect at 4-0 in singles play this year.

The Crimson and Gold enjoy some time off and will return to the courts on October 6 to face Wentworth at 5:00 p.m. on the campus of Regis College. Eastern Nazarene travels to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. match with the Corsairs.
