FIGHTING SCOTS EDGE PRIDE, 5-4

WESTON, Mass. - Gordon College defeated Regis College, 5-4, on Thursday afternoon in non-league men's tennis action in Weston, Mass. The Fighting Scots pick up their first win of the year to move to 1-0, while Regis suffers its first setback, falling to 2-1 in 2014.

In doubles play, the duo of Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) picked up the first point of the day at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win over Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.). At the top doubles spot, Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) rallied for a 9-7 win over Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Matt Quattrociocchi (Germantown, Md.).

The Fighting Scots wrapped up doubles play with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles as James Hawn (Southborough, Mass.) and Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) grabbed an 8-6 win over Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.).

In singles play, the Pride won three of the first five singles matchups to even the match at four points apiece. Quattrociocchi defeated James Hawn, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 4 singles, while Scott Barrett (Burlington, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) added wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Gordon's Zach Hall defeated Beluch, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Michael D'Antuono added a 6-2, 6-0 win over Morgenbesser at No. 3 singles.

With the score tied 4-4, the match came down to the No. 2 singles pairing of Chris Harrow and Mason Casady. Casady took the first set, 6-3, but Harrow battled back for a 7-5 win in the second set. In the third and final game, Casady grabbed the final set, 6-3, and sent the Fighting Scots home with the 5-4 win.

The Pride return to action on Monday afternoon when Regis hosts Eastern Nazarene College at 5:00 p.m. Gordon will host Springfield College on Monday as well, match time set for 4:00 p.m.
