PRIDE SWEEP HAWKS TO ADVANCE TO NECC FINALS

WESTON, Mass. – For the second-straight season, the top-seeded Regis College men's tennis team advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference Championship game after a 9-0 sweep of No. 4 seed Becker College on Thursday afternoon in an NECC Men's Tennis Tournament Semifinal matchup in Weston, Mass.

The Pride (14-5) will host No. 2 seed Newbury College (12-4) on Saturday afternoon in the NECC Finals at 2:00 p.m. The Nighthawks defeated No. 3 Mitchell College, 6-3, in the other Semifinal matchup.

Regis grabbed a quick 3-0 lead on Becker after sweeping doubles play. Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) picked up an 8-0 win over Brian Fradsham (West Boylston, Mass.) and William Humpfryes (Falmouth, Mass.). Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) added a victory in No. 2 doubles by a matching score.

Rounding out doubles play, senior Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) defeated Aaron Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) and Connor Allison (Hillsboro, Ore.) 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

White grabbed the first singles point of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Tyler Newsome (Brantford, Ontario) at No. 4 singles, and Jarid Polley clinched the match for Regis with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Brittan Morris (Cedar Park, Texas). Michael Beluch finished next, defeating Peterson 6-0, 6-1, before Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) closed out Guillermo Romera Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) with a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 victory. Jeremy Morgenbesser added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Fradsham.

Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) and Connor Allison had the match of the day at No. 5 singles as Hildreth won the first set, 7-5, before Allison rebounded for a 6-2 victory in the second set. In the third set tie-break, Hildreth sealed the 9-0 sweep for the Pride with a 10-5 win.

Regis is 2-0 against Newbury this season headed into the Championship on Saturday, winning both matches by scores of 8-1. Becker wraps up its season at 5-7 overall.
