PRIDE BLANK WHEELOCK, 9-0

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) won a combined two matches and didn't drop a game to lead the Regis College men's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over host Wheelock College in a New England Collegiate Conference contest this afternoon in a match played on the campus of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The Pride win their 10th straight contest to improve to 10-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in NECC play, while the Wildcats fall to 0-4 and 0-3.

Morgenbesser cruised past Wheelock senior Claire O'Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.) at first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 showing and paired with classmate Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) to blank Wheelock freshman Will Spofford (Kennebunk, Maine) and senior Sunshine Shearer (English Harbour, Antigua) at number two doubles, 8-0.

Freshman Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) was also a double winner for Regis, defeating junior Caelin Mooney (Rensselaer, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-0 at second singles and combining with junior Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) to down the Wildcats number one duo of O'Donoghue and Mooney, 8-0.

Senior Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) came away with a pair of victories as well for the Pride, winning at number four singles over Shearer, 6-0, 6-0 and pairing with freshman John Corraccio (Wethersfield, Conn.) to earn an 8-0 win at third doubles over Wheelock's duo of freshman Linda Le (Methuen, Mass.) and sophomore Rachel Meltzer (Fryeburg, Maine). Corraccio added another victory to his day for Regis when he came away with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over senior Kayla Arsenault (Eliot, Maine) at sixth singles.

Sophomore Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) and senior Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) each earned singles triumphs for the Pride with Nace defeating Spofford, 6-1, 6-0 at number three and Parrish blanking freshman Anthony Williams (White Plains, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles.

Wheelock will be in action again tomorrow when they host Becker College at the Pine Manor Courts at 11:00 a.m., while Regis heads to Leicester, MA to also play Becker on April 8 at 3:00 p.m.
