PRIDE SWEEP MITCHELL IN CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

WESTON, Mass. – In a rematch of the past two New England Collegiate Conference Championship matches, Regis College swept visiting Mitchell College, 9-0, in NECC men's tennis action on Thursday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride improve to 5-5 overall this year and 2-0 in the NECC, while Mitchell drops to 1-1 and 0-1 in league matches.

The Crimson and Gold have now won 20-straight regular season NECC matches dating back to April 3, 2012, an 8-1 setback to Mitchell College in New London, Conn.

Regis made quick work of the Mariners in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. NECC and Co-ECAC Player of the Week Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) teamed with Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) to post an 8-2 win over Zachary Simmons (Coventry, Conn.) and Graham Cavanaugh (Reading, Conn.) at the top doubles spot. The Pride won both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by matching scores of 8-1 as Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) and Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) won at No. 2 doubles and Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Austin Nace (Sarasota, Fla.) were victorious at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Beluch defeated Mitchell's Simmons 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Morgenbesser defeated Cavanaugh at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2. Jarid Polley grabbed his second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over Adam Diaz (Bellerose Village, N.Y.). Jeff Parrish avoided a third set tie-break as he won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 7-5 against Michael Berman (Fair Lawn, N.J.), and the Pride's Nick Hildreth (Harvard, Mass.) defeated Randy Coons (Yonkers, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

After dropping the first set of his No. 4 singles matchup 6-4 against Orson Sinclair (New London, Conn.), senior Andy White rebounded in the second set to win 6-4 and force a third game. White fought off a pair of match points when he was down 7-9 and 9-10 in the third set tie-break before battling back for a 13-11 set win to help the Pride to a 9-0 sweep.

The Pride are right back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Newbury College at 3:30 p.m. in an NECC contest. Mitchell will try and rebound tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in a match against Lesley University.
