BELUCH & MORGENBESSER SWEEP NECC WEEKLY AWARDS

WESTON, Mass. – Junior Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and freshman Jeremy Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) of the Regis College men's tennis team have been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively; it was announced on Monday morning. Beluch and Morgenbesser each went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play this past week in a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Salve Regina and Becker.

Beluch posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and teamed up with freshman Jarid Polley (Reading, Mass.) at No. 1 doubles to take an 8-2 win, as the Pride blanked the Seahawks on Thursday afternoon. On Saturday, Beluch helped Regis secure their first conference win of the season in their NECC opener against the Hawks. He won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and once again teamed up with Polley to win 8-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Morgenbesser won all of his matches this week at the No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles positions. In singles play against Salve Regina, he won his match 6-0, 1-6, 10-7, and followed that with an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles with classmate Nathan Cohen (Randolph, Mass.). On Saturday, he won 6-2, 6-2 in singles before taking an 8-1 victory in doubles play.

The Pride (4-5), who have won four consecutive matches, will host Mitchell for a 3:30 match on Wednesday in what will be a rematch of last year's NECC Championship.
