REGIS BLANKS WHEELOCK, 9-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Sophorn Nop (Lowell, MA) won a combined two matches and didn't drop a game to lead the Regis College men's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over Wheelock College in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) contest played at Pine Manor College on Thursday evening. The Pride win their fifth straight contest to improve to 5-8 overall and a perfect 5-0 in NECC play, while the Wildcats fall to 0-3 and 0-2.

Nop cruised past Wheelock senior Ben Lewis (Hopkinton, Mass.) at fourth singles with a 6-0, 6-0 showing and paired with classmate Matt Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) to blank Lewis and senior Dan Campbell (Northborough, Mass.) at number three doubles, 8-0.

Sophomore Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) was also a double winner for Regis, winning at first singles, 6-0, 6-0 over sophomore Charles Armstrong-Hicks (Windsor, Conn.) and teamed with junior Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) for an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles over Armstrong-Hicks and senior Jeff Silveria (Wilmington, Mass.). Parrish won his singles match with a convincing 6-0, 6-0 performance over Silveria at second singles for the Pride.

Junior Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) also picked up a pair of victories for Regis, winning at third singles over junior Claire O'Donoghue (East Haven, Conn.), 6-0, 6-1, and won an earlier doubles match with partner senior Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) over the Wildcats' duo of O'Donoghue and freshman Jamileh Sabeti-Javid (Nice, France) by a count of 8-1 at the number two position.

Diallo also won his singles match for the Pride, getting past Campbell with a 6-1, 6-0 effort at the fifth spot and freshman Biruk Legesse (Marion, Mass.) scored for the visitors as well with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sabeti-Javid at sixth singles.

Wheelock and Regis will both be in action on Saturday as the teams will face each other again at Regis for a 1:00 p.m. match start.
