PRIDE MAKE IT SEVEN-STRAIGHT WINS

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's tennis team made it seven-straight wins in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis action, as the Pride took a 6-3 decision from Becker College on Friday night in Weston, Mass. The Pride wrap up the regular season at 12-6 overall and 9-1 in the NECC, while the Hawks drop to 5-9 overall and 5-5 in league play.

The Pride grabbed an early 2-1 lead in doubles play as Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.) swept Timothy Howard (Paxton, Mass.) and Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), 8-0 in No. 1 doubles. Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) picked up the second point of the day with an 8-5 win over David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Jason Alera (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in No. 3 doubles. Becker's Brian Piquette (Agawam, Mass.) and Jake Gilbert (Huntington Beach, Calif.) nabbed the only point in doubles play for the Hawks with an 8-1 win over Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) in No. 2 doubles.

Regis won four of the six singles matches to take home the 6-3 win over Becker. Beluch continued his strong play with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top singles spot over Brian Piquette, while his doubles partner Andy White came back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to win the final two sets, 6-2 and 10-9 at No. 2 singles. Jeff Parrish rebounded from his doubles setback with a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles over Jake Gilbert. Jonathon Dost (Taunton, Mass.) rounded out the singles wins with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Devon Dubuque (Cranston, R.I.) at the No. 6 singles position. Branden Parkhouse and David Graham won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, for the only Becker points in singles play.

The Pride await word on their playoff destiny after finishing 9-1 in league play in 2012 and will host a home playoff match on Tuesday afternoon. Becker has also clinched a playoff spot and will be on the road in the opening round on Tuesday afternoon, destination to be determined.
