BELUCH PROPELS PRIDE PAST HAWKS 5-4

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College earned a hard fought 5-4 win over Becker College in New England Collegiate Conference men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon.

In top singles action, Regis freshman Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) made quick work of senior Tim Howard (Paxton, Mass.), winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The Pride also took number two doubles when Andy White (Bozeman, Mont) bested Jake Gilbert (Huntington Beach, Calif.) 6-0, 6-1.  Becker was able take the third, fourth and fifth singles matches, all by way of third set tiebreakers.

In number three singles, Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) outlasted Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) 2-6, 6-4, 11-9. In number four singles, Becker sophomore Brian Piquette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) held on to beat Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) 6-1, 6-7, 10-7. In number five singles action, David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) was able to overcome 2-6 loss in his first set to defeat Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.) in the second set 6-4, before finally winning a 10-6 tiebreaker. The Pride earned the split in singles play when Jonathon Dost (Taunton, Mass.) defeated Jason Alera (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

The Pride went on to take two out of three of the doubles sets to earn the 5-4 victory. In number one doubles, Michael Beluch and Andy White clawed past Branden Parkhouse and Tim Howard 8-6. The Hawks captured number two doubles when Jake Gilbert and Brian Piquette defeated Mouhamed Diallo and Matthew Smolko 8-3. Jeffrie Parrish and Jonathon Dost downed Jason Alera and David Graham 8-1 in number three doubles.

The win lifts the Pride to 8-6 overall and 5-1 in the NECC. The loss drops the Hawks to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.
