REGIS FALLS TO ASSUMPTION, 7-2

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Assumption College in non-conference tennis action on Friday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Pride drops to 2-2 this fall while Assumption picks up its first win of the season, improving to 1-4. Michael Beluch (Lynn, Mass.) helped score both points for the Pride with his wins at number one singles while teaming with Michael Berdichevsky (Wayland, Mass.) for a victory at number one doubles.

Assumption was able to grab two points in doubles play to jump out to an early 2-1 lead. Beluch and Berdichevsky combined for a 9-8 (7-3) win over Matthew Drolet (Cumberland, R.I.) and Dylan Baker (Cherry Valley, Mass.) for the Pride's lone point in doubles play. The Hounds' Richard Jakiel (New Britain, Conn.) and Nathan LaFond (Goffstown, N.H.) posted an 8-2 victory against Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.) and Sophorn Nop (Lowell, Mass.) in number two doubles, while Jeremiah Reilly (Greenville, R.I.) and Joseph Esposito defeated Jonathon Dost (Taunton, Mass.) and Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.), 8-4.

The Hounds were able to take five of the six singles matches to grab the 7-2 win. Michael Beluch defeated Dylan Baker by matching set scores of 6-2 for his second point of the day and Regis' other point of the match. Esposito, Drolet, Jakiel, Patrick Murray (Cumberland, R.I.) and Reilly each took care of business in their respective singles matches to secure the victory.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday, October 8th when the Pride hosts its annual Pride Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m. Assumption travels to Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. match in Northeast-10 conference play.
