TALENT AND EXPERIENCE TO JOIN MEN'S TENNIS PROGRAM

Weston, Mass.—Jeffrie Parrish (Framingham, Mass.), Jonathan Chen (Malden, Mass.), Jonathan Dost (Taunton, Mass.), and Matthew McDonlad (Braintree, Mass.) were recently announced as incoming student-athletes for the Regis College men’s tennis program. Head coach John Ciarleglio made the announcement via email.

Parrish is a two-sport athlete that will also play for the soccer team this fall. Beginning his tennis career at age 8, Parrish competed for two years as a member of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Junior Team for the Longfellow Club.

This past spring Parrish competed in doubles matches for the Framingham varsity boy’s team. “He will add a solid addition to the Regis men’s tennis team,” said Ciarleglio.

Ciarlegio also feels that Parrish will be an “excellent” leader, with “…impressive tennis skills, and mental toughness.”

Jonathan Chen

“Jonathan impressed me with his enthusiasm and work ethic for tennis,” says Ciarleglio. As a member of the Malden High boy’s team, Chen competed in doubles play for the Malden varsity team this past spring.

Chen, being a student of the game, has been playing since he was in the eighth grade, and this summer has aggressively worked on his serves, and topspin groundstroke in preparation for the fall season.

Chen is one of two incoming men’s tennis recruits that intends to pursue nursing upon entering Regis College.

Jonathan Dost

Dost learned the game of tennis at Easton Tennis Club when he was just 8 years old. Competing for Coyle-Cassidy Memorial High, Dost began playing during his freshman year.

He enhanced his on-court skills from private lessons at Lakeville Athletic Club before joining Coyle-Cassidy. With a successful junior varsity season behind him, Dost competed for the varsity program in his junior year. Then he competed in the second doubles, and third singles position entering his senior year.

“He is consistent, and has a great court sense,” says Ciarleglio. Dost will likely enhance the middle of Regis’ line-up.

Matthew McDonald

A former player for Braintree High School, McDonald impressed Ciarleglio with his strong two-handed backhand, and consistent serve. Beginning his playing career at Weymouth Club when he was in eighth grade, McDonald competed for three years at Braintree.

Playing just one year of junior varsity he consistently played in the first singles position during his senior year. Off the court he has a “great personality,” says Ciarleglio.

McDonald will greatly add to the men’s team as a solid player, and character teammate.

The men’s tennis program will compete, and train during its fall off-season before taking the court as a second-year program in the spring.
