
Cody Werner Named GNAC Swimmer of Week
WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa), one of this year's captains of the Regis College swimming and diving team, has been selected Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Male Swimmer of the Week after his performance Saturday, as the league office announced the weekly awards Monday, Oct. 21.
Werner picked up Regis' lone event victory in Saturday's dual meet at Eastern Connecticut State. He finished first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:11.22. Werner also finished second in the 50 butterfly by 0.27 seconds with a season-best time of 25.94 seconds and third in the 100 butterfly in 57.48 seconds.
The 2024 GNAC champion in the 50 butterfly, Werner was previously named GNAC Swimmer of the Week Jan. 8, 2024, as well as both GNAC Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week Jan. 10, 2023. Werner is in the Regis all-time top-20 times list in 12 different events, including second place in the 200 butterfly (1:57.21) and third place in the 400 individual medley (4:26.26).
The Regis College swimming and diving team heads to Gordon College for a meet against the Fighting Scots and Elms College Friday, Oct. 25, starting at 5 p.m.
