School Records Highlight Regis Invitational for Men

WESTON, Mass. - Three diving school records fell and several season-best times were established as Regis College hosted Elms College and Gordon College in the Regis Invitational Friday and Saturday, Dec. 1-2, at the Regis Pool.

Friday night, Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) broke the one meter diving school records for both five dives and six dives, first producing a five-dive score of 144.50 before compiling a six-dive score of 223.05. Saturday, Austin established a new 11-dive school record with an overall score of 387.82.

Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) continued his strong season with first place finishes in the 100 butterfly in 53.78 seconds, the 100 backstroke in 58.67 seconds, and the 50 butterfly in 24.24 seconds, all personal best times. He also led off the 800 freestyle relay with a 200 free split of 1:52.04, joining Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) for an overall time of 7:48.57.

Kim touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke in 30.77 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.98, plus he finished second in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:00.92. Nagaraj finished right behind Kim in the 50 breaststroke in 31.34 seconds, plus he finished second in the 50 freestyle with a personal-best time of 23.43 seconds.

Saturday, Nagaraj picked up two victories, finishing first in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.24 and the 100 freestyle in 50.98 seconds, plus he led off the 400 freestyle relay with a 100 free split of 51.59 seconds as he teamed with Madriz, Kim, and Werner for a winning overall time of 3:37.16.

Werner led off the 400 medley relay with a 100 back split of 59.94 seconds as the same quartet completed the relay in 4:02.68, and then he won the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 2:00.11 as well as posted a 100 free split of 51.02 seconds in anchoring the 400 freestyle relay.

Regis College returns to competition after the holiday break, facing Colby-Sawyer College in a meet hosted by Simmons University Saturday, Jan. 6, starting at 11 a.m.
