Another Sweep of GNAC Weekly Honors for Men’s Swim & Dive

WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second straight week, members of the Regis College men's swimming and diving team have swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards, as announced by the league office Monday, Oct. 23.

Sophomore Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been named GNAC Male Swimmer of the Week again after collecting two victories in Saturday's dual meet against Eastern Connecticut State. He finished first in the 50 breaststroke by 4/100ths of a second with a time of 30.03 seconds and in the 100 breaststroke by 9/100ths of a second with a time of 1:05.21. Kim also posted the fastest 50 breast split of 29.06 seconds in the 200 medley relay to help the Pride to a second place finish with an overall time of 1:46.09.

Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.), also a sophomore, received GNAC Male Diver of the Week recognition for another record-setting performance Saturday. He broke the school record for 11 dives in one meter diving with a total score of 322.45, over 40 points more than the previous standard established last season. Austin has now broken all three school records in one meter diving over the first three weeks of the 2023-24 campaign.

First-year competitor Casey Whittaker (Topsham, Maine) picked up his second GNAC Male Rookie of the Week honor in as many opportunities after earning his first career event victory Saturday, touching the wall first in the 100 freestyle in 52.36 seconds. Whittaker also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 23.81 seconds and in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.75. In addition, he posted the fastest 50 free split of 23.26 seconds as he anchored the 200 medley relay to a second place finish with an overall time of 1:46.09.

The Regis College swimming and diving team enters a busy weekend, starting with a dual meet at Gordon College Friday, Oct. 27, starting at 6 p.m. The Pride will then participate in the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday, Oct. 28, beginning at 11 a.m.
