School Records Lead to Victory for Men’s Swim and Dive Team

WESTON, Mass. - Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) set school records in both diving sessions, leading the Regis College men's swimming and diving teams to victories over the University of Saint Joseph, 122-68, and over the University of New England men's club program, 117-27, Saturday at the Regis Pool.

Austin first posted a five-dive score of 140.70, breaking his own school record of 125.75 established last year. He went on to break the six-dive record with a score of 175.00, over 13 points higher than the previous mark set last season.

The men got off to a solid start as Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.), Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), and Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.09. Nagaraj earned three individual victories, touching the wall first in the 50 backstroke in 28.86 seconds, the 50 freestyle in 24.43 seconds, and the 500 freestyle in 5:37.09.

Werner also posted three event victories, coming out on top in the 100 butterfly in 57.64 seconds, the 100 freestyle in 54.29 seconds, and the 50 butterfly in 26.10 seconds. Kim collected two event wins, finishing first in the 50 breaststroke in 30.06 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.33, plus he ended up right behind Nagaraj in the 50 freestyle at 25.12 seconds.

Madriz finished second in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.21, the 100 freestyle in 57.26 seconds, and the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:03.86, just 13/100ths of a second behind UNE's Jeff Manata.

Regis College (1-0) heads to Babson College to face the Beavers next Saturday, Oct. 14, starting at 12 p.m.
