Regis Swim & Dive Opens Competition at 2023 GNAC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Regis swimming and diving team earned two All-GNAC performances on the first day of the 2023 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, with the swimming events held at the Boston Sports Institute.

Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) received All-GNAC honors after a third place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:36.18.  Kim also helped the Pride to two third place finishes in the relays, teaming with Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), and Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.) in the 200 medley relay at 1:47.84 and the 400 freestyle relay at 3:33.58.

Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) collected the other All-GNAC award for the Pride Friday, finishing second in three meter diving held at Simmons University in Boston with a score of 182.60. On the men's side, Curtis set the new school record for a six-dive score in three-meter diving, finishing fourth at 154.60, while Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) placed in a tie for fifth place with a score of 149.35.

Nagaraj finished fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.20, while Madriz finished eighth in the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.31 seconds. As a team, the Regis men are currently in third place with 43.5 points, with Norwich taking early control of the team competition.

Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.33. Earlier in the evening session, she teamed with Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.), Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), and Olivia Roux (Sanford, Maine) as the Pride finished fourth in the 200 medley relay with an overall time of 1:59.81.

Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) placed 10th in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 13:06.67, and then she joined Luhnau, Miller, and Roux for a seventh place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with an overall time of 4:14.54. The Regis women concluded the session in seventh place in the team standings with 93 points as Norwich pulled ahead of Simmons at the top of the standings.

The 2023 GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships continues Saturday, Feb. 4, starting with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m, followed by one meter diving. The finals session is set to begin at 6:20 p.m. Saturday night.
