Michael Curtis Named GNAC Men’s Swim & Dive Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second time this season, first-year student-athlete Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week after breaking a school record, announced Monday, Jan. 23, by the league office.

Saturday in a dual meet against Elms College, Curtis first completed the 1650 freestyle in 23:45.43. He then went on to post a five-dive score of 113.90 in the first one meter diving session of the day.

In the second one meter diving event on the program, Curtis compiled a score of 161.65, breaking the school record of 161.45 he established Nov. 19 against Saint Joseph's College. His total 11-dive score of 275.55 was less than six points off his best 11-dive score of the season.

Curtis's first GNAC weekly award of the season came Nov. 21 after his effort against Saint Joseph's College. This is the fifth time a Regis competitor has earned the GNAC Men's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week award, as Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) has collected it twice and Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) received it Jan. 9.

The Regis swimming and diving team is preparing for the GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships Friday-Sunday, Feb. 3-5, at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass.
