Regis Swim Team Concludes Busy Weekend

WENHAM, Mass. – Competing for the second time in three days, the Regis College swimming and diving team faced off against host Gordon College and Husson University Sunday afternoon in a double-dual meet at the Bennett Center Natatorium.

Thanks to six overall first place finishes, the Pride men defeated the Gordon men in their dual, 91-83. Husson defeated both Regis and Gordon in the men's and women's competitions, while the Fighting Scot women ended up ahead of the Pride in the team scoring.

Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) enjoyed a stellar day, starting with a first place finish in the 50 breaststroke by 6/100ths of a second with a time of 30.57 seconds. Kim then cruised to victory in the 100 breaststroke by over seven-and-a-half seconds in 1:05.00.

After posting a time of 1:02.57 in the 100 individual medley, Kim led off Regis' 200 freestyle relay, teaming with Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.), Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), and Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) for an overall time of 1:39.69.

Madriz picked up a victory in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.22 seconds. Nagaraj touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.80 seconds, plus he finished third overall in the 100 freestyle in 54.61 seconds.

The Regis women were led by Olivia Roux (Sanford, Maine), who won the 50 freestyle in 27.91 seconds, almost two full seconds in front of her nearest competitor. In addition, Roux finished second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.62, just 12/100ths of a second ahead of Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) in third place at 1:07.74.

Roux also posted the third-fastest time in the 100 individual medley at 1:11.21, just behind Miller at 1:10.54. Miller earlier competed in a competitive 50 backstroke, posting a third place time of 31.73 seconds, less than a half-second behind the race winner and just one-tenth of a second behind second place.

The Regis College swimming and diving team concludes the regular season Saturday, Jan. 21, with a home meet against Elms and Western New England starting at 11 a.m. Seniors Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) and Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) will be recognized in the Senior Day presentation.
