
Cody Werner Sweeps GNAC Men’s Swim and Dive Weekly Awards
WINTHROP, Mass. - First-year competitor Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week after helping Regis College defeat Colby-Sawyer College in a dual meet this past Saturday.
After finishing second in the 50 breaststroke in 32.39 seconds, Werner won the 100 butterfly by 1.58 seconds with a time of 57.52 seconds. Werner then posted the team's best time in the 500 freestyle this season, winning the event by over 10 seconds with a time of 5:21.07.
Werner concluded the meet by anchoring the victorious 200 freestyle relay, posting the best 50 free split among all participants at 24.08 seconds to help the team complete the event with an overall time of 1:38.39. That result allowed the Pride to earn their fourth dual meet victory of the season with a 119-63 win over the Chargers.
Already this season, Werner has entered the Regis all-time top 20 times list in six different events, highlighted by moving into third place on the 200 butterfly list with a time of 2:01.02 established Dec. 3 at the Bridgewater State Invitational. The previous night against Elms, he swam the third leg of the 800 freestyle relay that broke the Regis Pool record with an overall time of 7:47.30.
Werner becomes the third member of the Regis men's swimming and diving team to pick up a weekly award, joining two-time Rookie of the Week honoree Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.), named GNAC Rookie of the Week Nov. 21.
