Regis Men’s Swim and Dive Sees Success at BSU Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Thanks to five event victories and several other strong performances, the Regis College men's swimming and diving team finished in third place at the Bridgewater State Invitational Saturday at the Dr. Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.

Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) won two events during the day, starting with a victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.02, over four seconds faster than his nearest competitor. After finishing third in the 100 freestyle in 51.25 seconds, he won the 100 butterfly by 2.5 seconds with a time of 54.55 seconds.

Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked up a victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:16.70. He also finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.70 and third in the 50 breaststroke in 29.45 seconds.

The other two event victories for the Pride came in the diving events, as Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) topped the standings in both one meter diving with a score of 136.55 and three meter diving with a total score of 137.10. Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.) finished second in both events, compiling scores of 117.90 in one meter diving and 119.10 in three meter diving.

The quartet of Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Kim, Werner, and Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.) finished third in the 200 medley relay with an overall time of 1:48.02. Nagaraj, Madriz, Werner, and Kim would team up at the end of the meet, finishing third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.95, just 24/100ths of a second behind second place Plymouth State.

The Regis College men's swimming and diving team will open the 2023 portion of the schedule Saturday, Jan. 7, at Colby-Sawyer College in a dual meet beginning at 1 p.m.
