Men’s Swim and Dive Opens Season in Winning Fashion

WESTON, Mass. - Led by the team's newcomers, the Regis College men's swimming and diving squad pulled out a close 109-108 victory over University of Saint Joseph, plus defeated the University of New England club men's swim team, 125-38, Saturday at the Regis Pool.

The Pride started the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as first-year swimmers Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.), Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) joined junior Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.) to post an overall time of 1:48.40. Kim would pick up individual victories in the 50 breaststroke in 29.39 seconds and in the 100 individual medley in 1:00.83.

After finishing second in the 200 freestyle in 2:00.71, Werner touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 58.71 seconds and in the 50 butterfly in 26.17 seconds. Nagaraj finished first in the 50 freestyle in 24.42 seconds, the 100 freestyle in 53.07 seconds, and in the 500 freestyle in 5:42.81.

Michael Curtis (Burlington, Mass.) broke a 13-year-old school record in the six-dive event of one meter diving, compiling a score of 124.15 to finish second overall, while Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) also ended up with a score above the previous school record at 118.80. Curtis also finished third in the 50 freestyle in 25.85 seconds and in the 100 freestyle in 57.37 seconds.

Regis College (1-0) heads to Bristol, R.I., next Saturday, Oct. 15, for the Roger Williams Invitational.
