Podium Finish for Pike Paces Pride Men's Swim Team

KINGSTON, R.I. – Led by a top-three finish for senior Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.), the Regis College men's swim team remained in seventh place after Saturday's competition at the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at the URI Tootell Aquatic Center.

After posting a preliminary time of 4:22.07 in the 400 individual medley, Pike finished second in the evening finals with a time of 4:17.65, less than a second off his school record time established two years ago. He nearly came from behind in the second half of the race, finishing behind Jacob Wyse of USJ by just 74/100ths of a second.

Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) qualified for the B-final of the 200 freestyle and finished third in that race for an 11th place finish overall in the event, improving to an evening time of 1:53.34. Wood also finished in 20th place in the preliminaries of the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.40.

The quartet of Pike, Wood, Sam Madriz (Union, N.J.), and Bryce Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.) finished seventh in both relays contested Saturday, starting with a finals time of 1:49.93 in the 200 medley relay after completing the preliminary race in 1:48.68. In the 200 freestyle relay, the Pride posted a time in the finals of 1:37.05, an improvement from the preliminaries by 93/100ths of a second.

In the preliminaries of the 50 butterfly, Madriz finished in 19th place with a time of 26.00 seconds and Toumayan-Miller ended up in 26th place with a time of 28.80 seconds.

The Pride maintain their seventh place standing, sixth among Division III programs, with 115 total points, 14 points ahead of conference rival Saint Joseph's College.

The final day of the 2022 NEISDA Championships is Sunday, Feb. 27, with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
