Pride Swim & Dive Continues Improvement at ECSU

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Regis College swimming and diving team continued its early-season improvement Saturday, as the Pride women competed in a double-dual meet against host Eastern Connecticut State and Stonehill College while the men faced the Warriors at the ECSU Sports Center.

Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) won three events to lead the Pride, finishing first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:18.79, in the 50 breaststroke by 2/10ths of a second in 30.08 seconds, and in the 500 freestyle in 5:20.79, another close victory by just 3/10ths of a second thanks to a split of 30.15 seconds in the final 50 yards.

Also for the men, Sam Madriz (Union, N.J.) finished second in the 100 butterfly in 59.57 seconds and in the 50 butterfly in 26.57 seconds. Bryce Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.) touched the wall second in the 50 freestyle in 26.18 seconds, and Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) earned a second place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.40 seconds.

On the women's side, Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) earned the victory in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.88 seconds. Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) posted a second place finish in the 50 backstroke in 30.26 seconds and third place finishes in both the 100 backstroke in 1:06.18 and the 100 individual medley in 1:07.36.

Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) enjoyed a solid meet, first finishing third in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:00.44, plus she also posted times of 1:05.59 in the 100 butterfly and 1:08.77 in the 100 individual medley. Another Pride swimmer showing improvement to the coaches was Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) with marks of 31.61 seconds in the 50 backstroke, 1:05.06 in the 100 freestyle, and 1:09.35 in the 100 backstroke.

Eastern Connecticut State defeated Regis in both the men's competition, 154-66, and women's event, 177-76, with Stonehill also picking up a dual meet victory over the Pride on the women's side, 178-66.

Regis College will have three weeks of practice before its next competition, as the Pride host Babson College and Norwich University Saturday, Nov. 13, starting at 1 p.m. at the Regis Pool.
