PRIDE SWIM WELL AT SECOND DAY OF NEISDA CHAMPIONSHIPS

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Regis College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the second day of the New England Swimming and Diving Championships on the campus of the University of Rhode Island on Saturday.

Currently, the Pride men sit in fourth place with 271 total points and the Regis women are in ninth place with 301 points.

For the men, junior Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) advanced to the finals and placed first in the 100 yard back with a time of 51.65. The 800 yard freestyle relay squad of Luong, sophomore Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.), junior Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) and junior captain Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) finished the race in 7:06.66, which was good enough for second place. Bastianelli placed fourth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.34 while Rainville (50 yard fly – 24.02) and Johnson (100 yard breast – 1:01.81) placed fifth in their respective events. Rounding out the strong swimming day for the men was newcomer Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) who placed seventh in the 100 yard breast, crossing the finish line in 1:03.47.

On the women's side, freshman Amanda Graf (Newton, Mass.) came in second place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.27. Teammate Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) finished three spots behind Graf in the event with a time of 1:00.84. The 800 freestyle relay team that was composed of Higgins, sophomore Ashlyn Deroche (North Reading, Mass.), freshman Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) and Graf placed fifth with a time of 8:24.42. Rounding out the scoring for the Pride women is freshman Molly Belles (Scranton, Pa.) who finished 11th in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.75.
