REGIS SWEEPS BRIDGEWATER STATE AND HUSSON ON SENIOR DAY

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished their seasons on a strong note as they upended Bridgewater State and Husson during a Senior Day dual meet Saturday morning. The Pride men defeated Husson by a score of 192-25 and Bridgewater State by a 173-96 margin. The Regis women earned a 183-65 win over the Eagles and a 159-92 decision over the Bears.

Before the meet, the Pride honored six departing seniors Najheen Anglin (Springfield, Mass.), Laura Holland (Mansfield, Mass.), Amanda Iandoli (Mansfield, Mass.), Lucia Llorente Ruiz (Newton, Mass.), Emily Murgo (Burlington, Mass.) and Mike Panagiotakos (Methuen, Mass.) for their contributions to the team, the college and its athletic department.

The men finished their season with a 9-0 record in meets, their second undefeated dual meet season in a row while the Pride women wrapped up their campaign with a 6-5 mark as they doubled their win total from last season.

Bridgewater State won both of their matches against Husson as the men won 190-25 and the women beat the Eagles 169-70.

Cassidy Bastianelli (Newton, Mass.) and freshman standout Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) earned three first place finishes apiece for the Crimson and Gold. Bastianelli crossed the finish line first in the 50 yard backstroke (26.67), the 50 yard freestyle (23.16) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.12). Unas's first place finishes were in the 100 yard butterfly (56.09), 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.83) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:12.64). Bryan Johnson (Sudbury, Mass.) and junior Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) swam well for the Pride with two first place finishes. Johnson took the 50 yard breaststroke (29.69) and the 100 yard freestyle (51.07) while Luong placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.73) and the 50 yard butterfly (24.61).

The Pride men also won the 200 yard medley relay, Kiet Luong, Joshua Unas, Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) and Rob Ekberg (Northbridge, Mass.) finished the event with a time of 1:44.19. Bryan Johnson, Rainville, Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Bastianelli took home first in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:31.56) as well.

Amanda Graf (Newton, Mass.) led the Pride women with three top times. Graf secured first in the 50 yard backstroke (29.70), the 100 yard backstroke (1:03.69) and the 200 yard individual medley (2:21.49). Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) and Ashlyn Deroche (North Reading, Mass.) placed first in two events each. Higgins won the 100 yard butterfly (1:04.43) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:39.90) while Deroche took home the 200 yard freestyle (2:10.59). Senior Amanda Iandoli was victorious in the 50 yard butterfly (32.45) in her last ever home collegiate dual meet.

Freshman Molly Belles (Scranton, Pa.), Lucia Llorente Ruiz, Jessica Higgins and Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) placed first in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.67 while Llorente Ruiz, Belles, Graf and DeRoche took home the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:48.69).

For Husson, Lara Sarett (Smithtown, N.Y.) placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.87 and also broke the plane first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.56).

Jameson Rose (Somerset, Mass.) led the Bears with a first place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.66.

Regis returns to the pool in a few weeks when the team travels to the University of Rhode Island for the NEISDA Championships from Friday, February 12th to Sunday February 14th.
