PRIDE PLACES 12 SWIMMERS TO COMPETE AT  NEISDA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Weston, Mass.—The Regis College swimming team will travel to White River Junction, Vermont to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming Association and Diving Championships Saturday (Feb. 12) and Friday (Feb. 18). The Pride will have a combined 12 swimmers competing at the championship event.  Seven men’s swimmers and five women’s swimmers will be contending for the Pride.

For the men the following swimmers have qualified for the men’s NEISDA Championships.  Ben Perry (Chicopee, Mass./Chicopee), Andy Laforest (Roslindale, Mass./Another Course), Nick Yerzyk (West Hills, Calif./Chaminade College Prep.), Steve McGovern (Dorchester, Mass./Boston College), Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn./Windsor), Djordje Mandic (Portland, Maine/Deering),  and Sean O'Brien (Westerly, R.I./ Westerly).  The Pride will hope to set new personal bests.

The women will have their final regular season meet of the season Wednesday (Feb. 9) against Westfield State. This meet should prepare them for the upcoming championships the next week. The following swimmers have placed to compete at the NEISDA Championships: Lindsay Ranahan (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), Christina Estrada (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone Valley Tech), Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass./Rockland), Megan Kennelly (Milford, Mass./Milford), and Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass./Waltham)

The Pride will look to perform well at the championships, and they have experience on its side. Out of the 12 swimmers competing for the Pride, seven have competed at the NEISDA Championships before.  Estrada and Ranahan captured 86 points for the Pride last year and will look to lead the team in the freestyle and backstroke events.  Laforest, Perry, McGovern, and Yerzyk also competed at the championships last year for the Pride. Laforest and McGovern will look to lead the Pride in the freestyle and breaststroke events.
