WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Regis College lost to the University of Saint Joseph, 5-0, Saturday afternoon in a quarterfinal match of the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Tournament at USJ Athletics Complex.
The Blue Jays pressured the Regis defense by taking multiple shots at the start of the match, but could not place the ball within the frame. Nolan McMahon (White River Junction, Vt.) took the first shot on goal for the Pride in the 14th minute of action but was unable to get past Blue Jays goalie Will Slayton.
The first goal of the match was scored in the 30th minute as Dane Stephens scored on a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Pride to lead with one, heading into the second half.
USJ extended their lead in the 59th minute after Damir Cirikovic met Mario Milardo for a pass, finding the back of the net for the second goal of the match. The Pride responded with a shot but was met with Slayton's quick hands in net.
The Blue Jays added offensive insurance with a goal from Milardo assisted by Henry McGarrah V and Nate Gabriel. Following the third goal, USJ saw scoring action from McGarrah V, and Cirikovic to finish with a final of 5-0.
USJ led 19-6 in shots, while both teams earned two corner kicks for the match.
Milardo led the Blue Jays with two goals while McGarrah V finished with one goal and two assists.Stephens and Cirikovic scored one goal each.
Chris Alcon (Weston, Fla.) played a majority of the match in net making four saves on seven shots, just before Kyle Weidemann (Piscataway, N.J.) closed out the game for the Pride in net.
Slayton made four saves in net for the Blue Jays, while Aidan Peterson made one save.
Regis College concludes its season 6-9-4 overall and 5-7-2 in the GNAC.
University of Saint Joseph (#1 seed) is scheduled to host Emmanuel College (#4 seed) in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 4:00 p.m.
