WESTON, Mass. – Regis College suffered a 3-0 defeat to Saint Joseph's College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Regis Stadium.
The first goal of the match was scored in the 26th minute by Nick Marion, after receiving the ball from Nate Sottak to lead 1-0. Regis responded with a shot from Joey Davila (Bristol, Conn.) but could not get past Monks goalie Liam Foley.
The Monks threatened to score just minutes after the start of the second half when Regis keeper Chris Alcon (Weston, Fla.) turned away a penalty kick shot from Gus Ford. The Pride took multiple shots after gaining offensive momentum following Alcon's save, but could not place the ball on target to find the back of the net.
The Monks doubled their lead after a shot from Griffin Forbes found the back of the net, to lead 2-0.
The final goal of the match was scored in the 85th minute after Marion sent a crossing pass to Divin Mpinga as he extended the lead, finishing the match with a 3-0 final.
Saint Joseph's College finished with a 14-13 shot advantage, and a 4-3 corner kick advantage.
Alcon finished with six shots on goal and three saves for the Pride while Foley made three saves off three shots for the Monks.
Regis (4-8-4, 4-7-2 GNAC) is set to travel to face Dean College on Friday, Oct. 25, with a start time of 3:00 p.m. Saint Joseph's College (7-7-2, 7-4-1 GNAC) is scheduled to travel to face Johnson and Wales University on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 12:00 p.m.
The entire bracket for the 2024 GNAC Men's Soccer Tournament is scheduled to be announced after regular season play concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
