WINTHROP, Mass. - For the second straight week, first-year goalkeeper Chris Alcon (Weston, Fla.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week after his victorious performance last Wednesday.
For the first time this season, Alcon played the entire match in net for the Pride, making six saves and allowing just one goal in Regis' 2-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H. Of his six saves, five of them occurred in the second half as the Chargers attempted to rally from a 2-0 deficit in the final 33 minutes, but he only allowed the home team to erase half of the deficit before time ran out.
So far in 2024, Alcon has appeared in three matches, including two starts, and posted a 1-0-1 record with a 0.88 goals against average and an .889 save percentage with 16 total saves. He is part of a Regis goalkeeping crew that is second in the GNAC and 31st in Division III in saves per game at 6.60.
The streak of GNAC Rookie of the Week honorees from Regis has now been extended to five consecutive weekly reports dating back to the 2023 season, with Alcon earning the last two awards.
Regis College (1-3-1, 1-2 GNAC) hosts Emmanuel College Wednesday night, Sept. 18, starting at 6 p.m.
