CHICOPEE, Mass. - For the fourth time in five matches, Regis College scored first, but Elms College quickly responded to tie the match and then scored twice in the second half to defeat the Pride, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's collegiate soccer match at Leary Field.
Less than three-and-a-half minutes into the contest, Joey Davila (Bristol, Conn.) struck for the Pride, scoring his second career collegiate goal to put Regis on top. However, the Blazers answered just over seven minutes later as Patricio Vidales set up Jacobo Molina Ferrer for the equalizer.
With just 2:39 elapsed from the second half, Elms took the lead for good as Vidales scored off an assist from Pajorn Drysdale. Regis created several scoring opportunities as the second half moved along, earning five corner kicks after halftime, but the Pride could not convert any of them.
As play entered the final minute, Jamal Hamisi found Molina Ferrar streaking down the field and sent a long pass in his direction. Molina Ferrar corralled the pass and sent a shot into the back of the net for the insurance goal.
Kyle Weidemann (Piscataway, N.J.) started in net for the Pride and made four saves before Caleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) came into the match early in the second half and collected five saves. Aidan Berube earned the victory for the Blazers while making two saves as Elms outshot Regis, 18-13.
