WINTHROP, Mass. - After allowing just one goal in over 113 minutes of action over the past week, first-year goalkeeper Chris Alcon (Weston, Fla.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, announced Monday, Sept. 9, by the league office.
In his first career collegiate match, Alcon started last Wednesday at Salem State and played over 68 minutes, collecting seven saves while giving up one goal for an .875 save percentage. He kept the Vikings off the scoreboard in the first half with three saves, with his first career save taking place just 39 seconds before the Pride scored to take a 1-0 lead.
Saturday against defending GNAC champion Johnson and Wales, Alcon entered the match after halftime and played the entire second half, making three saves without allowing a goal to keep the Pride in the contest. With the scoreless 45 minutes, Alcon lowered his goals against average to 0.79 and raised his save percentage to .909.
Alcon extends the Regis men's soccer team's streak of GNAC Rookie of the Week honorees to four straight occasions, a streak that started with Michael Arguelles (Miami, Fla.) and Sebastian Ortiz (Carolina, Puerto Rico) earning recognition in the final two weeks of the 2023 regular season. Last Tuesday, Dane Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) was selected GNAC Rookie of the Week after scoring his first career collegiate goal against Mass Maritime.
Regis College (0-2-1, 0-1 GNAC) heads to New London, N.H., to face Colby-Sawyer College Wednesday, Sept. 11, starting at 4:30 p.m. The Pride travel to Elms College for a matchup against the Blazers Saturday, Sept. 14, beginning at 2 p.m. before their next home match against Emmanuel next Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m.
