Dane Peterson Named GNAC Men’s Soccer Rookie of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - After drawing a penalty kick and converting that opportunity to help bring Regis College back into Saturday's match, first-year forward Dane Peterson (San Diego, Calif.) has been selected Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday, Sept. 3, by the league office.

Saturday against Mass Maritime, Peterson came off the bench and brought energy to the Pride offensive effort in his first career collegiate game, playing close to 40 minutes. With less than three minutes remaining in the match, he drew a foul in the box and then converted the penalty kick opportunity for his first career collegiate goal, closing the Pride deficit to two goals and switching the momentum to Regis' side.

Peterson is coming off a stellar prep career at Foothills Christian High School in El Cajon, Calif., totaling 49 goals and 60 assists during his time on the varsity roster. He was a three-year captain, a three-year First Team All-League selection, including MVP honors in 2023-24, and a two-time Midfielder of the Year selection.

Peterson's selection extends a streak for the Regis men's soccer team, as a Pride player was named GNAC Rookie of the Week in each of the final two weeks of the 2023 regular season. Michael Arguelles (Miami, Fla.) received the honor Oct. 23, 2023, followed by Sebastian Ortiz (Carolina, Puerto Rico) Oct. 30, 2023, as the Pride won their final five regular season conference matches as well as their GNAC Tournament first round contest.

Regis College (0-1) heads to Salem State University to face the Vikings Wednesday, Sept. 4, starting at 7 p.m. The Pride will then open their conference schedule by hosting defending GNAC champion Johnson and Wales Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at 6 p.m.
