Allsopp, Men’s Soccer Team Recognized by GNAC for Sportsmanship

GNAC MEN'S SOCCER POSTSEASON HONORS - FULL STORY

WINTHROP, Mass. - Senior Stephen Allsopp II (Medford, Mass.) has been selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer All-Sportsmanship Team, and the Regis College men's soccer program has earned the Institutional Sportsmanship Award through voting by the league's men's soccer head coaches, announced Tuesday, Nov. 7, by the conference office.

Allsopp, one of this year's team captains, started 17 of the team's 18 matches and played a major role in Regis' five shutouts during the year. He scored his first career collegiate goal during the Pride's 3-0 victory over Elms Sept. 9, and then he earned assists in three straight matches that helped start Regis' five-match winning streak at the end of the season.

His first assist came on a long throw-in with 20 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Pride defeat Lasell Oct. 11, 1-0. Three days later against Dean, he once again set up Regis' only goal of the match with a long throw-in just 48 seconds into the second half. He picked up his third assist of the season in the 67th minute against Colby-Sawyer College Oct. 16 on another long throw-in.

With 13th-year head coach Renato Capobianco at the helm, the Pride did not receive a red card during the 2023 season, nor did they lose any players for a match due to accumulating too many yellow cards.

Regis College completed the 2023 season with a 7-11 (.389) overall record, including a 6-8 mark (.429) within the GNAC. The Pride qualified for the GNAC Tournament for the fourth time since 2017 and defeated Emmanuel College in a first round match, 2-1.
