Sebastian Ortiz Earns GNAC Weekly Honor

WESTON, Mass. – After leading the Regis College men's soccer team to the first round of postseason play and contributing to the first round victory against Emmanuel College, first-year player Sebastian Ortiz (Carolina, Puerto Rico) has been named GNAC Rookie of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Monday, Oct. 30.

Ortiz scored multiple goals within consecutive matches for the Pride this past week. The Pride faced Salem State University last Tuesday. Just 26 seconds after Salem State scored, Ortiz found the back of the net, bringing Regis back within one goal of the Vikings, one of the top teams in the MASCAC.

In a GNAC Tournament first round match against Emmanuel College on Thursday, Ortiz broke through with less than 27 minutes remaining in regulation to help earn the victory for the Pride. With just over 10 minutes to go, he threatened to score to provide Regis with some insurance. Ortiz finished the season tied for the team lead in goals.

Regis finished the 2023 season with a 7-11 overall record, including a 6-8 mark within the GNAC after falling to Saint Joseph's College on Saturday, Oct. 28 in the quarterfinals of the GNAC Tournament.
