WINTHROP, Mass. - After playing a significant role in three victories for the Regis College men's soccer team over the past week, junior Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week and first-year midfielder Michael Arguelles (Miami, Fla.) has received GNAC Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week honors, announced Monday, Oct. 23, by the league office.
Lavini-Ayalla earned at least one point in all three matches as the Pride extended their winning streak to five matches, their longest in nine years. He started with one goal and two assists during Regis' 5-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer last Monday, the team's highest scoring match in five years. He scored the first goal of Wednesday's match against Anna Maria in the 29th minute, and then he picked up an assist on the first goal of Saturday's contest against Mitchell.
Arguelles broke through in a big way over the past week for Regis. Monday, he scored twice early in the second half as the Pride defeated Colby-Sawyer, 5-2. He then picked up the insurance goal Wednesday against Anna Maria in the 70th minute. Arguelles is now in a three-way tie for the team lead in total points with seven along with Lavini-Ayalla and Javin Stickney (Gorham, Maine).
These are the first GNAC weekly awards for members of the Regis men's soccer team since the Pride earned Goalkeeper of the Week (Freddie Beckmann) and Rookie of the Week (Jacob Freitas) honors Sept. 13, 2021. With the five-match winning streak, Regis has locked up the eighth seed in the upcoming GNAC Men's Soccer Tournament and will host a first round match Thursday, Oct. 26.
Regis College (6-9, 6-8 GNAC) closes out the regular season against Salem State University Tuesday, Oct. 24, starting at 4:30 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
