Pride Men's Soccer Wins Fifth Straight to Clinch GNAC Berth

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team defeated Mitchell College 5-0, clinching a spot in the GNAC Tournament next week.

After nearly 40 minutes of an evenly played match, Regis overcame the Mariner defense for the first Pride goal scored by Alfred Bresnahan (Marblehead, Mass.), assisted by Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.). Just over one-and-a-half minutes later, the Pride drew a penalty for a foul in the box, and Jeremiah Frias (San Diego, Calif.) converted on the penalty kick.

Less than seven minutes into the second half, an own goal was scored for the Pride, putting Regis in the lead 3-0. In the 77th minute, a penalty was drawn by Jacob Freitas (Dracut, Mass.), who stepped up and buried the penalty kick for the goal.

The Pride's offense kept the momentum going, with Freitas scoring his second goal of the game, and the final goal of the game, just after a corner kick was taken in the 86th minute.

The Pride had a total of 25 shots and 12 corner kicks. Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) had two saves for Regis as he picked up the victory, while Mitchell goalie Jesse Jenkins finished with 12 saves.

Before the match, Stephen Allsopp II (Medford, Mass.), Bresnahan, Alessandro DiPaola (Newington, Conn.), Freitas, Frias, Matteo Marino (Newton, Mass.), and Javin Stickney (Gorham, Maine) were recognized for their contributions to the Pride soccer program. Both DiPaola and Marino received the first start of their respective collegiate career.

The Regis College men's soccer team (6-9, 6-8 GNAC) plays their next match at home at Regis Stadium, Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 4:30 p.m. against Salem State University.
