Men’s Soccer Pulls Out 1-0 Victory Over Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - After capturing the shot advantage throughout the afternoon, Regis College finally broke through in the final minute of Wednesday's match, defeating Lasell University, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer contest at Taylor Field.

As the clock moved under one minute remaining in the second half, the Pride took control as Joey Davila (Bristol, Conn.) advanced the ball into the box and forced the Laser defense to clear the ball out of bounds. Stephen Allsopp II (Medford, Mass.) sent a long throw-in into the box, and Nolan McMahon (White River Junction, Vt.) connected his head to the ball, guiding it into the net with 20 seconds left to give the Pride a key road league victory.

Caleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) played the entire match in net for the Pride and earned the clean sheet, making seven saves during the contest. Two of those saves occurred midway through the second half on shots by Jaydon Perez, while his seventh and final save of the contest came with less than 10 minutes to go, once again denying Perez.

Regis outshot Lasell in each half, 11-6, but the Lasers were able to put more shots on goal in the match (7-4). Riley Stogsdill (San Diego, Calif.) challenged starting Lasell keeper Antonio Centracchio with 1:15 left in the first half, but Centracchio earned his second save of the afternoon. Cameron McDonough replaced Centracchio at halftime and made a save on a shot by McMahon just over 10 minutes into the second half, but he could not stop McMahon's second shot on goal.

Davila led the Pride with four total shots, while Allsopp and Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) finished with three shots apiece. Perez ended up with five total shots, including four shots on goal, to lead the Lasers.

Regis College (2-9, 2-8 GNAC) begins a five-match homestand to close out the regular season Saturday, Oct. 14, against Dean College starting at 1 p.m.
