NASHUA, N.H. - Despite nearly 72 minutes of scoreless play, the Regis College Pride suffered a narrow 2-0 defeat by the Rivier University Raiders on Tuesday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at Rivier University.
The Pride started strong, pressuring the Raiders' defense with seven shots, four on target in the first half. Javin Stickney (Gorham, Maine.) had two shots on goal, including the first of back-to-back shots in the 25th minute, along with Jeremiah Frias (San Diego, Calif.), that were turned away by the Raider defense. Rivier also had offensive moments, tallying seven shots in the first half, with Jason Harlow contributing three.
The Raiders had two promising chances early in the second half, but Pride goalkeeper Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) made both saves. In the 72nd minute, the Raiders broke through when Hayden Bilodeau set up Mitchell Ward for the home team's first goal and Ward's first collegiate goal. Just three minutes later, Ward sent a pass into the box allowing Mathews Ferreria to score the second goal while earning Ward an assist.
Donahue made a total of seven saves, while Raider goalie Dominic Cunha was credited with two saves as he earned a clean sheet.
Regis is scheduled to travel to Emmanuel College on Saturday, Sept. 23, for their next Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match starting at 3 p.m.
