Men’s Soccer Loses at Johnson and Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Despite a career-high save total from Regis College goalkeeper Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.), the Pride were unable to hold off the Johnson and Wales University offensive attack, as the Wildcats posted a 2-0 victory Saturday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer match at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Johnson and Wales (2-2-1, 2-1 GNAC) controlled the action throughout the first half, taking 14 shots and drawing nine corner kicks within the opening 45 minutes. However, Donahue turned away all four Wildcat shots that were on goal, plus he received assistance from the woodwork, as Bruno Teixeira's shot in the 41st minute hit the post.

Donahue continued to keep the ball out of the net early in the second half as he stopped scoring attempts by Austin Sweeney and Brian Miller. However, in the 56th minute, the Wildcats received a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box, and Miller was able to find the upper right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The Wildcats continued to pressure the Pride defense, but Donahue maintained a steady presence between the pipes, especially on consecutive shots by Aidan Bagley in the span of about 40 seconds midway through the half. Bagley would pick up the assist on a goal by Mike Hernandez in the 82nd minute to provide insurance for the home team.

In total, Donahue was credited with a career-high 10 saves as the Wildcats enjoyed a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal and a significant 17-1 advantage in corner kicks. Bagley, Miller, and Conner Elliott led the Wildcats with three shots on goal apiece.

Regis College (1-3, 1-2 GNAC) heads to Nashua, N.H., for a GNAC contest against Rivier University Tuesday, Sept. 19, beginning at 7 p.m.
