STANDISH, Maine – The Regis College men's soccer team fell to the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at the SJC Athletics Complex Wednesday.
In the 24th minute, after a shot from Aidan Falvey (Medford, Mass.) just missed the crossbar, Javin Stickney (Gorham, Maine) fired a shot into the back of the net to score the first goal of the game.
With six minutes remaining in the first half, the Monks tied the game after Rion Dos Santos gained possession and fired a ball into the back of the net for an unassisted tally.
The home team came out strong in the second half, with Gus Ford scoring just two minutes into the second half. In the 74th minute, Divin Mpinga collected a loose ball creating a breakaway opportunity, passing the Pride's defense for what would become the final goal of the game.
Caleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) started the match in net for the Pride and finished with three saves before Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) took over at 47:04 for the remainder of the match, earning one save. Overall, the Pride had six shots while the Monks had 14.
Regis (1-2, 1-1 GNAC) is scheduled to play at Johnson and Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match starting at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 16.
