Men's Soccer Falls to Mass Maritime in 2023 Opener

BUZZARDS BAY, MASS. - Regis College could not hold onto a halftime lead, losing to Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 2-1, Saturday afternoon, in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Fauget Stadium.

Sebastian Ortiz (Carolina, Puerto Rico) scored the only Pride goal in the 36th minute after receiving a pass from Michael Arguelles (Miami, Fla.), earning the first Regis goal of the season.

In the second half with just over 22 minutes remaining, Buccaneer first-year player Brody Calvert tied the game. In the 80th minutes, Harry Cooley of the Buccaneers put the ball in the back of the net to give the home team the lead for good.

Goalkeeper Caleb Russo (Brookfield, N.H.) made six saves, while the Pride took 14 shots and created several offensive opportunities in the first half with three corner kicks.

Regis (0-1) hosts Colby Sawyer on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 4:30 p.m.
