Regis Men’s Soccer Comes up Short Against Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Regis College could not overcome the Norwich University offense as the Cadets defeated the Pride, 4-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer matchup at Sabine Field on Saturday night.

The Pride's best chance came in the 14th minute of play when Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) fired a shot on goal, forcing Robert Wagenseller to make a save for the Cadets. Regis almost scored again right before the end of the first half when Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) ripped another shot on goal resulting in a Norwich save.

Regis goalie Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) had four saves within the first six minutes of play before Kam Jorgenson scored his first goal of the season to put the home team on the board. Less than 30 seconds later Amerle Nemeye scored his first goal of the season off a corner kick to put the Cadets up by two.

Norwich added to its lead in the second half when Nemeye once again found the open net to score his second goal of the game. With just over ten minutes left, Joseph Thongsythavong capped off scoring for the night with his fifth goal of the season, giving the Cadets a four-goal advantage.

Donahue played the entire game in goal for the Pride, finishing with nine saves while Wagenseller finished with two for the Cadets.

Regis College (3-2, 0-2 GNAC) next faces off against MIT in a non-conference matchup Monday, Sept. 19, kicking off at 7:00 p.m., before returning to conference play Wednesday, Sept. 21, with a road match against Dean College beginning at 3:30 p.m.
